Sam Adams OctoberFest
On Friday, Sam Adams kicked off its 13th annual OctoberFest with a special VIP night. The Mr. and I stormed confusedly entered the Park Plaza Castle (really, where is the entrance?), which turned out to be the perfect venue for this event.

We were given these stickers, told to wear them, and then instructed to “find your mate.” For this introvert, my first instinct was to put the sticker on UNDER my coat. The Mr., of course, wore his proudly. We eventually realized that in order to get a hat (that EVERYONE was wearing), we actually did need to find our mate. Sigh! Fine. Only because I wanted that hat.

The Mr. spotted my mate before I did, who was gracious enough to go over to the hat table with me so I could answer a trivia question and get my hat. (I really wanted that hat!) My mate’s friend/girlfriend/fiancee/wife turned out to be the Mr.’s mate (weird, right?) and she stood in line with him so he could do that same. And we got our hats! Thanks, mates! (Note: my sticker stayed under my coat the entire night.)

There were beer activities like making your own pretzel necklaces.

And “Was ist das bier?,” which the Mr. played. There were three similar beers and he had to pick the Boston Lager. And he did. The Mr. knows his beers.

There was also a fun oompah band!

With adorable costumes!

And beer hoisting competitions …

Girls, too! The one on the end here won. She had some serious muscles.

As with most things, it was fun until it wasn’t fun. Towards the end of the evening, there were too many people crammed in there and the lines grew super long. Oh, and the hats, only cool when everyone else is wearing them. They came off as soon as we left the castle.
